Merry Christmas

Thanks to each of you for the supportive comments and encouragement in continuing this effort to build the best database of documented ATV trails in the known world.  May each of you have the true joys of this Christmas Season.

Web Site Updates:

The big news is that life has been restored behind the keyboard.  After the use of three different machines and five hard drives and four mother boards, we are back in the web page authoring business.  Whew, what a pain!

If you were expecting to receive this month's newsletter via email, but instead had to access it online, it is entirely possible that we have lost your email address. There were about a dozen addresses lost between 11-11-01 and 12-11-01.  They were lost because the new version of Netscape does not have the same export/import features, not because we didn't back up our data.

New pages:

  • Wasatch-Cache National Forest Map - Kamas Ranger District map now available.
  • Avintaquin area trails
  • Yellowstone ATV Trail
  • Moon Lake Play area
  • Reservation Ridge Trails
  • Map Riding page
  • Job Description for the Trail Specialist
  • Trail Specialist Code of Conduct
  • Bulletin Board
Revised Pages:
  • Tread Lightly banner added to ATV Start Page
  • Link to Tread Lightly ATV handbook now on ATV University menu.
The HITS keep on commin'!

In just over two months we have now seen over 2500 hits!  Thanks to all who have added links to the Utah ATV Trail web site from their web pagesIt is never too late to add a link to www.utahatvtrails.com

Dear Santa....

Here's a list of things you can ask Santa for:

  • A Garmin eTrex GPS with computer interface cable
  • Garmin MapSource Topo Software (so you can download your GPS Tracks to a Map)
  • Digital Camera (Kodak 3200 would be fine)
With these essential tools you will be outfitted to apply to  become a Trail Specialist.  If you presently have all these toys, then just get busy and apply to be a Trail Specialist.

Other Handy Winter ATV Accessories:

  • Heat Packets - just slide them in your glove and keep those fingers toasty. (visit your Sportsman's Warehouse for this one)
  • ATV Mitts - Covers over your handle grips that keep your hands warm and dry. (Walmart, Sportsman's Warehouse)
  • Heated handle grips - They make them, but I'm not sure they are worth it. (Cabela's)
  • Hus-skis - Ski's that attach to your front tires and transform your machine to a slowmobile, (that's not exactly a snowmobile, because you still have to remain on a packed surface) (Cabela's is the only place I've seen them advertised)
  • GPS handlebar mounting bracket. (Garmin, Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse)
  • ATV Tire Chains - If you've worn the edges off your tread you will find that they don't grip the ice and snow like they did last year.  An essential if you have a plow.(Cabela's, Plaza Cycle, Steadmans)
  • ATV Sled - The trailer won't go in the snow... Try the ATV Sled. (Sportsman's Warehouse)
  • Battery Tender - Don't you just hate it when the ATV won't start on those chilly mornings... time for a trickle charger. (Cabela's)
  • The Club for ATVs - A 7 foot locking cable to make sure your ATV remains where you left it. (Cabela's)
  • Helmets - They wear out just like every thing else.
  • 3 bag tank bag - (check it out at ATV Stuff via our links page)
  • Front Rack Cooler bags...(also at ATV Stuff)
  • The Helmet Mirror - Could be the best solution yet for use on an ATV. (see ATV Stuff)
