The Knolls
The featured ride for this month is the Knolls.
This BLM administered site is located on I-80 about an hour and a half
west of Salt Lake City. It is not the mountainous sand dunes you
find at Little Sahara, but you'll have no less fun. There are hills
to climb and dunes to pop over. For more information check out the
new page available under "This week's ride." Next week you will find it
under the Trails menu option.

Olympic ATV's
Don't
be surprised to see our law enforcement professionals employ ATV's and
Snowmobiles at many of the Olympic venues. These agencies have
been granted special use authority to permit enforcement and security at
the games.
One interesting
point is that the areas around the Olympic venues have also been closed
to all OHV use during the Olympic Games.
If you
were planning on taking a ride from Tibble Fork to Soldier Hollow or the
Wasatch Mountain State Park, you can cross that trip off your list until
after the games. After 9-11 no one is going to take the chance that
someone might come out of the trees with terrorism in their plans.
Sounds reasonable to me. |
Have you been there?
We're always looking to enhance
and improve the information available on the Utah ATV Trails Web site.
Here are a few places that are on the future ride list. If you've
visited any of these locations, you can help by sharing your experience
and description of the site. A few pictures would help out a great
deal and assist in understanding your report too.

Private Property!
Greg owns some property down
by Fountain Green. On one side his neighbor is the BLM on two other sides
he is a neighbor to the National Forest. The front of his property
borders the county road. His entire 180 acres are fenced off with no welcome
mats at any adjoining trails. He tells of an experience during
deer hunting season where some hunters pulled up to his cabin on their
ATV's looking for directions, or so that was their story.
However, to reach his cabin they had to knock down the
fence near the gate by the road. Caught red handed, Greg turned the
guilty parties over to the local constabulary in Fountain Green.
He was fortunate on this occasion because he was there. Too many
other times he has not, and serious damage has been done to his property.
How difficult is it to respect private property owner's rights? If
you don't see a welcome mat, permitting use of
ATV's on private property, just stay out. A "No
Trespassing" sign shouldn't be necessary. There is no such thing
as a "right of way" on a trail.
Next Issue: Look for information on the Utah
Trail Patrol. |
