Lets Get Going
All Trail Patrol Members:
A new year is here so let’s get our groups together and make plans for one good season. It’s time to make plans for trails your groups are going to patrol. We need to contact the land managers of those trails, fill out volunteer forms and see what projects they may like to see done this year. Last year Bill Thompson contacted all the land managers to let them know about the trail patrol, so they know that someone from your groups will be contacting them.
Be involved with the land managers as much as possible. The better they get to know and trust you and see the quality of work your groups do, the more they will let your groups do. It is going to take some time to form good working relationships. One good season will make great strides in keeping trails open and possibly even getting more trails in the future.
Remember when you do projects to document what you do. Take good pictures
and do press releases to your local media. Let them know the good work
your club is doing. Also let them know that you belong to the Utah Trail
Patrol. Use this publicity to attract new members to your clubs.
This year we have a fun activity for you to be involved in as you go
out with your clubs and families.
We have been putting out some geocache’s for Trail Patrol members to find. The rules to geocaching, for those who have not done this before are: Use a GPS to find a cache. When you find one you sign the log, take an item from the cache, leave something of equal value in its place. This will help those who have GPS ‘s to become more familiar with them and have some fun seeing how great these devices are. The geocaching coordinates are on the next page and will also be found at www.utahatvtrails.com and www.atvutah.com .There is one more thing. In each geocache there is one of my business cards with a number on the back. The 1st 2nd and 3rd people to find 10 geocaches will receive a prize. We don’t yet know what these prizes are but we have some time to get them together. Some cache’s will not be accessible until the little snow we have melts. One other thing so to make this a little more interesting 1st 2nd 3rd prizes need to be from different groups. This means 3 people can’t go together collect the same cards and win all prizes. Three people could go together and win all the prizes they would need to find 16 caches and turn in 3 different cards for each. Call me with any questions, my #is on the cards
0ne other thing you need to e-mail or mail me with each find. Good hunting
Thanks for all you do to preserve our access to public lands.
